KWAI 2 Thai Culture

At Kwai 2 we pride ourselves on preparing traditional recipes handed down through generations. Thailand has an enviable and honourable lifestyle built on karma and happiness amongst their surroundings. As an independent nation founded in 1238 its original name, Sukhothai, means "Dawn of Happiness". Ever since that dawn the Thai culture and cuisine have been based on pleasure and harmony.

Thai cooking has a character of its own, much of it based on the land’s abundant spices and herbs. This has given Thai cuisine a reputation for being harmonious and zestful. The contrast and balance are what makes a Thai meal: hot and spicy, sweet and sour, pungent and sweet.

The Essence of Thai Cuisine - In Balance with Nature

Our award winning chefs use herbs in many forms - fresh, dried or ground. When preparing our products, we strive for a balance of colour, texture and flavour.

Herbs are used for their flavour contributions as well as to re-establish the balance between Yin & Yang - a cosmic equilibrium of the harmony of all things. Yin represents the cooler, moist and weaker forces, while Yang is the warm, dry and stronger forces. Our chefs follow this philosophy by selecting a combination of foods that balance these forces.

We hope that you enjoy your meal and, if it is your first time trying Thai cuisine, please ask our staff who will be more than happy to suggest dishes that may suit your palate.
